The Sochi Project: Sochi Singers

Marika Bajur canta «Kuriu», en el restaurante Eurasia, en Sochi. Los artistas actúan en restaurantes en la ciudad vacacional rusa Sochi, en la costa oriental del Mar Negro. La Gran Sochi se extiende unos 145 km a lo largo de la línea costera y atrae predominantemente a turistas rusos, que acuden al lugar en busca de sol, mar, arena y vida nocturna. Hay numerosos restaurantes y la competencia es feroz. La mayoría de ellos ofrece actuaciones en directo. Los cantantes proceden de todas las condiciones y las edades varían enormemente. Algunos de ellos cantan en el mismo lugar durante todo el año, otros van de un restaurante a otro durante el verano. Suelen cantar una combinación de baladas rusas y música pop, solos o en dúo, con un acompañamiento que puede ser un sintetizador, música grabada o, en alguna ocasión, instrumentos en directo.

"A rappelling worker helped hang a giant photograph of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth along the River Thames Friday. The photo, from the queen’s 1977 Silver Jubilee, will hang over a 1,000-boat regatta being held on the river June 3 to mark her Diamond Jubilee."

Prior to taking up photography, Donald Weber trained as an architect, and worked at urban theorist Rem Koolhaas’s Office for Metropolitan Architecture in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. He freelanced for the international press in places as diverse as Africa, Eastern Europe, Russia, and South America, before involving himself in a personal project that focuses on how power deploys an all-encompassing theater for its subjects, in which he aims to record the collaboration of power with both masters and victims.
